I have been wanting to do this race for probably about 3 years now. The majority of the time I waited too late to sign up and it was sold out, or I waited too late and it was too expensive. I wanted to do this race so bad because the entire race is on the Biltmore Estate. You even get to run by the mansion. I have always wanted to go, so I thought this half marathon would be the perfect opportunity!

The race is so popular they have to do two days, and I chose to do the Saturday race. We always go up the day before so we can go to the expo and pick up my race packet, so we got there on that Friday afternoon. One of my friends that goes to Asheville pretty often said we needed to try this burger place called Juicy Lucy's, I promise it is a burger place. Another fried of mine that I hadn't seen in years lives pretty close to Asheville so she met us there to eat. It was so nice seeing her and catching up! Lucy's has a hamburger called the Juicy Lucy that has cheese in the middle of the patty! I ended up not getting that because my stomach is pretty sensitive, but I should have went all out. I don't know if it was just because I didn't know what to order but it wasn't my favorite place to eat.

Story time.

My go to race breakfast is always a banana and a bagel with peanut butter. Most of the time I forget to bring all that with me, so my husband and I usually have to find somewhere to get it. Well, it was kind of late and there was a Walmart close by so we decided to go there since we knew it would be open. It was kind of a sketchy Walmart and they didn't have any good bananas so it was already turning into a bad trip. On our way back to the hotel leaving Walmart my husband has his blinker on to get in the turning lane and this car speeds by laying on the horn, so naturally he honked back because he didn't do anything. We are sitting there at the redlight and this woman gets out of the car that honked at us, gets in her trunk and pulls out a baseball bat and just stares down my husband!! I'm in the passenger side freaking out and she just struts back to the car and gets in and drives off. Craziest. Thing. Ever.

After our eventful night, it was race day. I have to say this was probably my most difficult race. Keep in mind I don't ever train like I should and this race was no exception. I had been running some hills and I do cardio about twice a week, but it still wasn't enough. Even though it was tough, it was beautiful. I really wanted to tour the Biltmore after the race but I was soooooo sore. My everything was hurting so I definitely didn't feel like walking around even more. We ended up just going on home after I changed and cleaned up after the race. I'm really hoping we can go back for a weekend and actually tour the mansion.

My next race is June 9, and believe it or not I have actually been training for this one! Be on the lookout for a post on it next month!

43 more to go!
